Mrs. Johnson passed on October 5, 2011. Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of Shelley Sr. and Leola Green Kirby. She was formerly employed with the University of South Carolina.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ray Allen Johnson; two sons, Eddie and James Johnson; her siblings, Ruth Blanding, Shelley Jr., John Henry, Jessie, Betty, Donald and Daisy Kirby; six grandchildren; mother-in-law, Sallie Mae Cannon; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives, all of whom will miss her dearly.

My deepest condolences to the family. Essie was a like a mother to me. She taught me how to cook, how to drive and and so many other things. It was 20 years ago when I was first introduced to your family and I still hold you guys so near and dear to me. She was a blessing and she will truly be missed.
