Mrs. Huckaby, wife of the late Joe A. Huckaby, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Born in Greenwood, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Olander Guyton Ouzts and Annie Mae Stroud Ouzts. Mrs. Huckaby was a military wife, who lived in many places, including Germany and Okinawa and loved to travel. She was a former long-time member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church, now known as New Heights Church. She was active in all church activities, especially her Sunday School Class, singing in the choir and cooking for Wednesday night dinners. Mrs. Huckaby studied her Bible daily and was currently a member of Spring Valley Baptist Church. Mrs. Huckaby was past president of The American Legion Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and raised five children.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Danny R. and Cindy Sanders of Columbia; step-daughter, Kay Huckaby of Newberry; two sisters, Vera A. Crouch of Saluda and Loree Bailey of Greenwood; sister-in-law, Joan Huckaby of Lexington; grandson and his wife, Scott A. and Courtney Sanders of Columbia; and great-grandson, Parker Sanders. She was predeceased by her first husband, Parker Sanders; son, C. Wayne Sanders; stepson, Donald B. Huckaby; and stepdaughter, Jolynn Huckaby Snelgrove.
