Frances Hutto Obituary

Frances Hayden Hutto
June 20, 1990 - June 6, 2023
Greenville, South Carolina - Frances Hayden Hutto, 32, passed away on June 6th, 2023.
Hayden was born in Columbia, South Carolina on June 20th, 1990. She was the daughter of Dr. Lisa Slatton Hutto and Samuel Keith Hutto.
Hayden attended Heathwood Hall Episcopal School from 3K to eighth grade, where she received high academic honors. She was just as much a distinguished athlete as she was an academic. She began playing tennis at the age of 4 and by the age of 10, she was a South Carolina State Champion in both Singles and Doubles play. By the sixth grade, Hayden was the number one player on the varsity tennis team at Heathwood Hall. Throughout her tennis career she played in many tournaments at both the state and regional level. She then attended Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, where she continued to excel in athletics, playing on the varsity tennis and squash teams, while earning high academic honors.
Hayden graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Honors College at The University of Massachusetts Boston in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology. Her achievements at the collegiate level included being a member of the Dean's List and Director's List all four years; a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society; and the winner of the prestigious Alfred R. Ferguson Prize for her senior honors thesis.
Hayden then went on to graduate from The University of Virginia School of Law in 2018, where she was the recipient of an academic scholarship---The Class of 1968 Kennedy Scholarship. During her tenure, she was a member of the Virginia Law & Business Review; Virginia Law Women; and the Virginia Law Innocence Project Pro Bono Clinic.
After graduation, Hayden joined Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York City, where she was part of the Mergers and Acquisitions team. While she worked and excelled in corporate law, she was most passionate about providing pro bono legal services to disadvantaged women. She was most recently employed at Womble Bond Dickinson in Greenville, South Carolina.
Hayden's interests included travel, hiking, books, movies, music, running, art, and theatre. She was an avid reader and loved classic literature. She had an excellent sense of humor and an amazing laugh. She was a beloved sister, daughter, and a friend to many.
Hayden is survived by her mother, Dr. Lisa Slatton Hutto and father, Samuel Keith Hutto; sisters, Mary Hayes Hutto and Anne Hollins Hutto; aunts, Sharon Kay Slatton and Janet Slatton Fontenot; uncle, Dr. Wilfred Joseph Fontenot, Jr.; and many cousins.
Hayden was predeceased by her beloved stepfather Ronald F. Loewen and grandmother Frances Slatton Wilson.

Lisa and Keith, I did not personally know your beloved daughter, but I have had the privilege of knowing both of you for a number of years. There can be no pain worse than a parent losing their child, and I extend to you my deepest condolences. At some point in the future when your healing process has had an opportunity to take hold, I would like to reacquaint with both of you at a time that is comfortable for you. In the meantime, if there is anything I can do for either of you, please do not hestitate to reach out to me. With deepest sympathy, Bill Sills

Russell and I are so sorry for this terrible loss. Russ has very positive memories of her from his days teaching her tennis, both as an impressive child and tennis player. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
