Gene Sheorn Obituary

Gene Sheorn CAMDEN - Stephen Eugene Sheorn, Sr., 91, resident of 2013 White Oak Rd. passed away Thursday Oct. 5, 2017 at Kershaw County Health Center in Camden, SC. Gene was born in Camden, SC Jan. 27, 1926 a son of the late James Duncan Sheorn and Selma McCaskill Sheorn. Gene was a United States Army veteran proudly serving his country during WWII. He was a retired Supervisor with DuPont Industries having worked in the Orlon, Dacron and Nylon plants for over 30 plus years. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and tinkering with things. He was a handy man's handy man as he had a gift that he could fix and repair anything. Gene enjoyed going to his Jack Leg Club meetings eating and enjoying fellowship with his buddies. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and making memories such as their annual Carolina Cup Horse Races every spring and going to the lake swimming, waterskiing and tubing. Gene was a member of Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church where he was very active. He was fondly known as one of the three horsemen within in the church as they did numerous repairs within the church. Gene and his wife Sarah joined Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church in 1987. Shortly after joining, Gene served as an Elder for several years. His spirit of service continued as he helped repair and replace the church steeple, build Miss Bettie Richards Fellowship Hall, build the Lakeside pavilion, and worked tirelessly on the expansive irrigation system at Lakeside. He even built the first podium used at Lakeside services way back when we met in the parking lot of Deal's Marina. Gene continues to serve the church as part of the newsletter workday crew. He is such a faithful attendee at worship services that if he misses a Sunday we begin to worry! Gene is a quiet pillar of Liberty Hill Presbyterian and we are grateful for him. In 2014 he received the "Legacy Award" given by the South Carolina Presbytery to a member of each Presbyterian Church. Survivors are: a son Stephen Eugene Sheorn, Jr. (Connie) of Lugoff, SC; two daughters Linda Bullock (Rick) of Cream Ridge, NJ and Carol Jackson (Steve) of Abbeville, SC; nine grandchildren Laurie Drumm (Marc), Alison Poore (Scott), Ryan Bullock (Mandie), Stephen E. Sheorn, III (Jill), Angie Garner (Greg), Zac Sheorn, Brad Jackson (Christi), Brooks Jackson (Jennifer) and Kelly Jackson; 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah McCrary Sheorn, a brother Jimmy Sheorn and a great-granddaughter Natalianne Jackson. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday Oct. 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM in Quaker Cemetery in Camden, SC with Military Honors conducted by Revs. Dot Killian and Gene Rawlings. The family is at the home 2013 White Oak Rd. Camden, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following services on Tuesday afternoon at the cemetery.
