Gregory Ballentine Obituary
January 21, 2022
Columbia, South Carolina - Gregory Nelson Ballentine, 63, died January 21, 2022 at home surrounded by loved ones. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022 in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mr. Ballentine was born in Columbia. The son of the late Jack Melvin Ballentine and is survived by his mother Peggy Nelson Ballentine and step-mother Lurleen Ballentine. Brother Jack Timothy Ballentine (June) and step-sister Kimberly Thomas (Joe), nieces Kristin Baggott (Jerry), April Waltz (Dave), Ashley Perry (Ryan) and nephew Josh Ballentine (Michelle).
Greg graduated from A.C. Flora High School and the University of South Carolina where he was a history major and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. His love of history was a lifelong passion.
Greg spent his entire career with SCE&G where he started as a student assistant and worked his way through the computer programming and analysts departments. Greg took early retirement to enjoy the last years of his life.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who gave so much to make his last days comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blind Cat Rescue or a charity of one's choice.

Gregg's family, I only knew Greg a short while but he and I talked quite a lot about his illness and his acceptance. My sincere condolences to you in his loss.
