James Dickson Obituary

IRMO - James H. Dickson Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 2, 2011. Born March 21, 1928, in Darlington, he was a son of the late Penelope Privette and Norwood Hall Dickson Sr. He was a member Riverland Hills Baptist Church and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He had taught the young married class with his wife, Beverly, and co-taught the Agape Sunday School Class. Prior to joining the Baptist Church at age 55, Jim had been a lifelong Methodist, of which he was a Sunday School teacher and a very active Lay Speaker. He retired from Allstate Insurance Company after 29 years of successful service.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years 11 months, Beverly Jean Bauknight Dickson of the home; three sons, James H. Jr. (Karin), Robert Michael (Sally), David Nelson (Donna); grandchildren, Michael Jr., Mitchell (Kelsey), Christopher, Jamie, Nelson, Mary Kathryn and Jacob; great-granddaughter, Addilynn; and granddogs, Chase and Lola. He was predeceased by brothers, Norwood Hall Jr., Carroll Ruthven, Joseph Privette, Wallace Gregg, Charles LeGrande Dickson; and sister, Eleanor Dickson Nelson.

Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, with burial in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Receiving will be at the church from 1:00 until 2:10 p.m. prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.

The family would like to express gratitude to the entire staff of Agape Home and Agape Hospice for their very special love and care, especially Kathryn Watson, Jacque Kendall, Biannica Williams and special friend and sitter, Helen Brewton. They all went above the call of duty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agape Hospice, 2705 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, SC 29169 or Riverland Hills Baptist Church Building Fund, 201 Lake Murray Blvd., Irmo, SC 29063.
