Funeral service will be held Friday, October 21, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield United Methodist Church with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park with military honors.
Mr. Ouzts was born in Greenwood County and had retired as a lab technician from SRS with 38 years' service. He was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church where he was superintendant of Sunday School for approximately 45 years. He also served on many other committees in the church. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Pacific and Atlantic on an LST ship. He went to Lacusta, Japan, and assisted in putting the LST in commission.
He helped load troops in Key West, Fla., and went to Entron invasion. He stayed on the Bushnell in Key West, Fla. He was a member of American Legion Post #30 and the 40&8.
Survivors include his wife, one son - Rock (Vicki) Ouzts, Manning; one daughter - Mary Tez (Alan) Perano, Edgefield; five grandchildren - Dixie Lee Perano, Geri Anne Perano, Tori Elizabeth Perano, Michael Owen Ouzts and Robert Thomas Ouzts.
Memorials may be made to Edgefield United Methodist Church Building and Repair Fund, P.O. Box 25 Edgefield, SC 29824 or American Legion Post #30, 603 Addison Street, Edgefield, SC 29824.
The family is at the home and will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
