I've known Wade for over a decade, meeting him at UPS. He was always so kind and would go out of his way to make you laugh or smile! He didn't have many earthly possessions, but come hell or high water, he'd give you the shirt right off his back! During my years of knowing him, he had many ups and downs in life. Many highs and lows. A few failures and many triumphs! I've witnessed him mend totally broken and fractured relationships with true love and perseverance. There were quite a few times where (he thought) he'd written someone off completely out of his life 'forever' only to later show complete forgiveness and true compassion in reconciliation. Wade always talked about his niece and all the different milestones she went thru over the years! Oh and I cannot forget his precious Athena! True to every sense of the old adage "man's BEST friend!" Oh wow, how he loved her! She really, truly saved him during some really tough times! Wade was pretty damn near Ironman-even getting hit by a TRAIN! I mean damn, a train! He carried so many of his physical scars so well. Within this past year, I was able to witness him share his personal choice, to accept Jesus Christ, as his personal Lord and Savior. And for a couple of months after that he was absolutely on fire for The Lord! It was very exciting to see his transition. Also within this past year, his mom passed away and that was truly devastating for him, her loss and absence. I can recall, specifically, a live video he did pleading for one of his friends, or anyone, to please take him out somewhere and just be company with him. Just hang out with him. To give him a change of scenery.....for someone, anyone to just be with him in his profound grief that he was in- in THAT moment. Oh how much I'd love to valiantly proclaim that "I" was the one who answered his plea.....but I didn't. After I watched the video, I prayed for him and just kept on scrolling. He would additionally make more live videos and we would chat, comment and text each other over the weeks. In more recent weeks, in my scrolling, a notification would come up as him being live, but I found myself not clicking on them. I wasn't really getting on social media much, so a lot of his live videos I did actually miss the notifications. It wasn't until this past week I learned of his passing and my heart just sank in disbelief. My disbelief turned into despair immediately when I specifically recalled that live video he did pleading for a friend, stranger, hell ANYONE just to NOT let him be ALONE.
To Wade's family.....
Matthew 25:45 I humbly ask for your forgiveness in my choice to not be there for Wade. I know that I could never have changed the outcome for him however I damn well could've helped him thru his "DASH". (poem by Linda Ellis) In short, I will absolutely never, ever forget Wade or the profound survivor's guilt that weighs in my heart. In time, only Christ can lift that burden from me.
Sleep peacefully Wade. You're free from all pain.
