James Wactor Obituary

James Andrew "Andy" Wactor COLUMBIA - James Andrew "Andy" Wactor, 76, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Columbia, SC, to the late Charles M. Wactor and Evelyn Shepherd Wactor, and had one brother, William "Buddy" Wactor. Andy attended Columbia High School, and then served in the Air National Guard of S.C., continuing his duty in the United States Air Force Reserve. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in engineering. He and his loving wife, Becky, were married for 52 years. Andy began his career as an electrical engineer at SCE&G and stayed with the company until his retirement. He was responsible for implementing the Saluda River high water warning system and played a major part in the design the V.C. Summer Nuclear Plant. Andy was devoted to his church and spent much of his free time working to improve the property and volunteering with the Men of the Church. He also served as an Elder on the Session, led the Adult Sunday School Class, regularly attended Men's Prayer Breakfast, and was a member of the Business and Facilities Maintenance Ministry. He was always happiest spending time with family or out on his boat on Lake Murray. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage, "armchair coaching" the USC football and basketball games, collecting arrowheads, going metal detecting, and taking his beloved dog, Maxie, on walks through the neighborhood. When Andy was in better health, he spent many years volunteering in N.C. each summer with Habitat for Humanity. Andy is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Westall Wactor; son, Craig A. Wactor; daughter, Erin Clarkson; and granddaughter, Daisy Terrell. Memorial services for Mr. Wactor will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 29, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1112 Hummingbird Drive, 29169, with visitation following immediately afterward in the church's fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Providence Presbyterian Church Capital Gifts Fund or to the American Heart Association. Dear, dear friend, Becky,
You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. I am with you in heart and spirit and wish that I could be with you physically. I am holding you up in prayer and will be thinking of you especially Wednesday afternoon during the funeral. God is with us during all of our storms of life. May He be close to you now. God bless you now and always.

Francis and I remember with fondness our lunches together in Five Points -- wonderful memories!
Love, Susan
