When I look back over my 64 years, more than 35 years as a practicing pharmacist, I cant think of anyone outside of my family who had a more positive, more indelible influence in my life than Dr. Wynn. He was more than a teacher, more than a mentor - he was my friend and confidant.
Dr Wynns door was always open, more importantly, his heart was too. During my pharmacy school years on many occasions I sought his counsel. His wisdom, insight and quiet compassion were like a steady hand to lean on. In difficult days in college, when my confidence seemed to wane, he believed in me when I doubted myself. His passion for pharmacy and for teaching were self-evident to all who were fortunate enough to take his classes. As much as he cared about the profession, I believed he cared even more for the lives and futures of the students he taught.
When I precept pharmacy students, I share the story of my experience with Dr Wynn with all of them. I tell him of the great gift he gave to me, the gift of patience, kindness, compassion, and encouragement which he gave to me. When my students tell me of how much they enjoy learning with me, I tell them I only giving to them a gift which was given to me from Dr Wynn and people like him. I ask them to return to favor by passing it on to others they meet along the way. I can think of no better legacy.
Sincerely,
From Jeff Tollison, BS, College of Pharmacy, University of South Carolina 1981.

As Chairman of the Board of South University when we started the Pharm D program in Savannah, we were thrilled when Jim Wynn agreed to come with us and institute our Pharmacy degree. We could not have found a more qualified, experienced and wonderful individual for the task at hand. We will miss him.

Looking back over the 30+ years I have been a pharmacist, there was no one individual who had a more positive influence on me than Dr Wynn. His passion for the profession and for teaching, his kindness and caring for students, his giant heart will endure in many of the lives he touched, and most assuredly in mine.

As a member of the inaugural class of South University School of Pharmacy, I would like to express my most sincere sympathy to Dean Wynn's family and friends. As a fellow Dean at South University, please know how much I looked up to Jim as a colleague and a mentor. Like Jim, I was brought on board to found a new set of programs, and so I looked to Jim as a role model and an advisor. His advice and his thoughts were always on target and positive as I moved forward. It has been 3.5 years since I came on board and I cherish every moment I had with Jim. Please know my thoughts are with the family and our colleagues and students as we continue to move forward as he would have us do. J. MIchael Brooks, PhD, Dean, College of Arts & Sciences, South University.

As a 1992 graduate of the MUSC-COP, I am deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Wynn's passing. He truly was my favorite professor of all my college career. Dr. Wynn was caring, loving, fun...and one of the sweetest men I've ever met! My prayers are with his family at this difficult time. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Joyce,
I just heard about Jim's passing yesterday (July 17) and I wept. Jim was a good man, and I know that he loved and admired you dearly. He would talk about you often during the days I worked with him at South. I know that you are a strong woman, having fought the battle of cancer yourself for so many years. But I also know that this is a very difficult and painful time in your life. You know that God is the source of all comfort, so I pray that God will comfort you.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Thinking back to 1969 like it was yesterday I, like all of the young ruggers were very lucky to have had Jim as a friend and incredibly positive example. To Dr. Wynn's family,
I, too, was one of his many students over the years at MUSC. He was a great teacher and showed me new ways to look at medicinal chemistry. He was also a great person and I very much enjoyed our after-class conversations. He will be missed. You have my deepest sympathy.

I am very sorry to hear of Dr. Wynn's passing. I was one of his many graduate students at MUSC and, in fact, he was the first person I met when I first arrived in Charleston in 1991. I was new to the US then and he immediately put me at ease. He was a great leader of our graduate program and a wonderful teacher. He will be sorely missed. May God bless his soul.

Dr.Wynn was an incredible teacher, I don't think that I would have made it through Pharmacy School without him. The pharmacy profession has lost a great leader and I know that is a very small thing compared to the lose that the family is going through. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family and to all the students who will never have the privilage to be taught by him.

Joyce and family,
I am so sorry to hear that Jim has died. We were not aware of his illiness and it was quite a shock when we got the mesage from Phil,Jr.
Jimmy, Ronnie,Faye and Phil,Jr.were playmates wth me and Marjory growing up in Southwest Virginia. After college we scattered in different directions, had families and life charged forward. I saw Jim last when he came to mother's funeral Sept. 2009 and we had a great time catching up.
Our love and prayers will always be here for all of you.

I was so saddened to learn of the loss of this true gentleman. Certainly I, and I expect few, can express in words what Jim Wynn brought to the profession of pharmacy and the world in general. Jim was recognized as a true leader from early on in life and he never slowed down. He will be missed by many.
May he rest in peace.
