John Frazier

John Robert Frazier BLYTHEWOOD - John Robert Frazier died February 8, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center, Lexington SC. He was the son of the late John William and Madge Roush Frazier of Gallipolis, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor "Judy" Frazier of 62 years, son John Jr. (Donna), daughters Judith "Judi" Harth (John), Janet Garvey (Patrick), and Joy Mitchell (John), grandchildren Melissa Ramsey (Tyler), Nicole Durig, Kyle Garvey, Andrew Harth, Lauren Garvey, Madison Frazier, Hope Marie Mitchell, great grandchildren Emma andRobert Ramsey, and brother Dean Frazier, sisters-in-law Dorothy Frazier and Margaret Prager, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his son David Paul Frazier, and brothers Joe Frazier and Ralph Frazier. John spent his early years in Gallipolis Ohio, graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1948, and while working for a Kentucky Oil Refinery was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951. At the end of the Korean War in 1953, he was honorably discharged, married his sweetheart, West Virginia beauty Eleanor "Judy" Ebbert and together they went off to college in Indiana where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indiana Tech. Following graduation, he went to work as an electro-mechanical design engineer for The National Cash Register Company (NCR) in Dayton, Ohio and during the first 15 years he obtained a number of patents for NCR and was recognized as an Inventor. Two engineers he respected and worked under were responsible for developing computing machines that broke the German Enigma Code during the World War II era. In the early seventies John and another engineer were assigned to start up a new NCR engineering and manufacturing facility in West Columbia, SC. His immediate family at this point in time included his wife Judy, son John, daughters Judith, Janet, and Joy. In the following years the children all graduated from Spring Valley High School and colleges in the Carolinas and Georgia Tech. During the seventies and eighties, John was the Program Manager for all products that were developed and manufactured at the NCR West Columbia facility. In the early 1980's this facility developed a small microprocessor based super computer that became NCR's first billion dollar product. John retired in 1991 and spent the remainder of his years enjoying golf with his friends, gardening at his home in Long Creek Plantation, attending grandchildren's activities, and vacationing with his wife and family. The family was always his number one priority during his life. The Frazier family will receive friends at Kornegay & Moseley Funeral Home on Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia on Friday, Feb 12th from 6-8 pm. Funeral service will follow on Saturday Feb 13that 9 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Polo Road. The burial ceremony will be a private family service at a later date.
