For over 49 years Rev. Robinson brought his energetic servant leadership and his genuine love for God's people to churches and charges throughout the South Carolina Conference.
He recently celebrated 75 years of marriage with his wife, Mrs. Ernestine Williams Robinson, a retired public school teacher. To their union four children were born: John Winifred Jr., the late Christina Ernestine, Annette R. Marbury and William Thomas. The Robinsons have five grands, five stepgrands, three great-grands, and six stepgreat-grands.
The Robinson family's Methodist ministerial heritage began in 1884 with his grandfather, Thomas Glenn Robinson, an elder who served for 30 years and his father who served for 45 years. Robinson's legacy continued with his son, William Thomas Robinson, retired elder who served as a pastor, urban missioner, staff member of the General Board of Global Ministries and District Superintendent for 40 years in the Detroit Conference, and grandson, Herbert Robinson Marbury, elder in the North Georgia Conference, who is assigned to Vanderbilt University School of Divinity. On Father's Day Rev. Robinson witnessed a second grandson, Lawrence Andrew Marbury, preach his first sermon ar Kelly Chapel United Methodist Church, Decatur, Ga.
In the past year of his life his health began to fail. Surrounded by family, he left the realm 31 days before his 101st birthday.
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. September 7, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with burial in Belleville Memorial Gardens. Rev. Larry D. McCutcheon will officiate. The casket will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m.
The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the residence, 931 Boulevard St., and at Bythewood Funeral Home.

I was sorry to read about the death of Rev. Robinson. My grandmother (the late Mrs. Lillian V. Spann) and mother (the late Mrs. Hattie Lillian Spann-Bell) were very fond of their cousin. I have not seen him in a long time but have often thought about him. Winnie, as he was affectionately called by them, will be missed and now can converse with them in heaven.

Servant well done, so happy to hear of God's servant who lived a long life dedicated to God and mankind. Family, I don't personally know you but God knows and loves you all. Be blessed.

As I read today's State paper, I learned of Rev. Robinson's passing. I recently had the pleasure of hearing his grandson, Rev. Marbury, deliver a resounding message during St. Stephens UMC homecoming celebration a few weeks ago. Although, I didn't know Rev. Robinson personally, I know he left a profound effect on the St. Stephens UMC congregration. My grandfather, William "Ruby" Lytch was a trustee member and I know he and Rev. Robinson were strong advocates for voting rights and education in the Dillon, SC community. I'm blessed to have been a product of my grandfather's legacy and to know their work is still moving forward in the Dillon Parish and St. Stephens UMC community.
With hearfelt sympathy, may the Robinson family to continue to move forward and know that God's grace is everlasting. Rev. Robinson has left his mark, he has completed is duty to the body of Christ and continue to cherish your precious memories.
