I had the pleasure of getting to know David through my husband, Dr Howard Holl. Mr Wertz was Howard's middle school English teacher for two years, and was his friend, mentor, and fellow Clemson fan. We were at his 80th birthday party and even stayed at his house when we attended Howard's 50th AC Flora reunion and also on other occasions. He was a true "renaissance man", with diverse interests and talents, yet remained humble and self-effacing. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. Joy and Howard Holl

So sad to hear of David's passing. He was such a wonderful friend, role model, colleague. I received a lot of good luck by frequently rubbing David's head in the hallway at Northside Middle School! He was always a good sport with my kidding. David touched so many students' lives with his love of language, and others were lucky to experience his abundant talents which involved gardening and church. My deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy.

A life well lived and respected, Mr. Wertz was one of my favorite friends and supporters of the arts at Ebenezer Lutheran Church. I always looked forward to seeing Mr. Wets when we worshiped at Ebenezer and performed on their concert series. I enjoyed hearing him talk about his Bansai hobby. A man of many talents and the patience of Jobe. Rest in peace my friend.
