Joseph Shinn Obituary

Joseph Wayne Shinn
July 23, 1963 - August 13, 2021
Beaufort, South Carolina - Joseph Wayne Shinn, a father, Papa, brother, friend, mathematician, faithful navigator and jokester for life passed unexpectedly and took his last navigational tour on August 13, 2021, at the age of 58.
Joey is predeceased by his parents, Earl and Dolores Shinn and nephew, Michael Shinn and is survived by his children, Joseph Wayne Shinn, Jr. (Stephanie), David Earl Shinn (Heather), and Kristin Ann Shinn (Chris); brothers, Trip and David Shinn, favorite sister, Kathy (Charles) Holley; a niece, Mandi Holley and two nephews, Charlie Holley & Christopher Shinn, and seven wonderful, fun-loving grandchildren: Zoey, Aria, Bailey, Hunter, Jackson, Victoria and Oliver Joseph
Bowling and golf were Joey's favorite hobbies. Joey was a highly respected bowler and friend in the Midlands USBC and Lowcountry USBC organizations, contributor to multiple scholarship-based tournaments including Timothy Spencer Rice (TSR) and Right Approach Training Tour (R.A.T.T.), an advocate for youth bowlers and the American Blind Bowling Association (ABBA). He knew his marks and how to navigate the ball whether he was throwing the ball or coaching from behind the lane, so naturally, it's not surprising that he had a few perfect 300 games. Don't let him know we bragged.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation in memory of Joseph W. Shinn to ABBA, Attention: Rozella Campbell, 2829 Tall Oaks Ct., Apt. 11, Auburn Hills, NC 48326 or CBA, Attention: Jeff Tucker, 2463 Steven's Rd., Raleigh, NC 27610. Both organizations are part of a blind bowling association.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, August 28 at the VFW, 37 Castle Rock Rd., Beaufort, SC 29906 from 2:00-6:00 PM. Bring your best story to share or a photo or two. Masks will be available at the door.
