Joseph "Joe" Acker Wilkes

September 30, 1930 - September 9, 2025

Columbia, South Carolina - Joseph "Joe" Acker Wilkes, 94, of Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born September 30, 1930, in Winnsboro, SC, he was the son of the late Lucille Acker Wilkes and Martin Yongue Wilkes.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Theresa Ann Fincher Wilkes; and his siblings, Martin Wilkes, Sr., and Julia Hungerpiller. He is survived by his brother, Carl Wilkes.

Joe is remembered with love by his three children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren who affectionately knew him as "Papa Joe."

A celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Columbia. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or to a charity of one's choice.
