Juanita Gillie Obituary

Juanita Fair Gillie COLUMBIA - The Homegoing Service for Mother Juanita Fair Gillie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at The Church of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith (1632 Germany Street, Columbia) with burial at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home (2930 Colonial Drive, Columbia) has been entrusted with the arrangements. She passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015. Not completing her senior year at Booker T. Washington High School, "Mu," as she was affectionately known, was determined to get her high school diploma which she did in fact do when she graduated from C.A. Johnson High School in 1985. For more than 45 years, she worked in various capacities, including as a school food service employee at Logan Elementary and Baptist Hospital, retiring as a Nurses' Aide from the SC Department of Mental Health. She served as a Foster Grandparent at St. Andrews Learning Center. She was the on-time ride for several of her fellow foster grandparents. Mother Gillie was a faithful member of The Church of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. She is survived by her children: Darylene Gillie, Diane Gillie, Angela (Cleo Jr.) Payne, Mary (Robert Sr.) Coffey, Thomas (Jilwana) Gillie, Timothy Gillie and Ray (Angela) Gillie; a sister, Betty Jean Wise; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers as you deal with such a tremendous loss in your lives. Mrs. Gillie was always most well thought of in the neighborhood. She raised a wonderful family and is blessed many times over! Family was the most important thing to her always! I wish there were more I could say or do to lighten your load at this point in time, but just know that Time is a great Healer as is our Creator!

Truly, Sister Gillie was one who helped those in need of transportation. I will always remember that she got up from her sick bed to take me to get my sick daughter from school. Another time, she saw me and my granddaughter waiting at a bus stop in the hot sun and had Sister Elaine turn around and pick us up and take us to our destination. It was the Love of GOD in her heart and I am forever grateful.
