June Cloer Obituary

June McManus Cloer
February 10, 1939 - October 15, 2022
Columbia, South Carolina - June McManus Cloer, 83, of Columbia, died on Saturday, October 15, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 10, 1939, in Columbia, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William Sloan McManus and Martha Emma Campbell McManus. She was a devoted, active member of Spring Valley Baptist Church, where she sang in the Valley Voices choir and faithfully attended the BYKOTA Life Group Sunday school class. Additionally, she was a member of the Evening V Group Bible Study in Northeast Columbia.
June was fortunate to meet the young man of her dreams, Jack Cloer when she was just a teenager in high school. They were part of a large youth group back in the fifties. The young couple spent much of their courtship attending church activities together. They were married in 1959 and had a loving marriage for 44 years before Jack passed away. Jack was ordained as pastor of Taylor Evangelical Methodist Church in downtown Columbia in 1994, following in his father's footsteps. June became a model of what a pastor's wife should be. She delighted in supporting Jack, the children and grandchildren in all their endeavors and took great pride in watching them blossom and succeed.
Rev. and Mrs. Cloer were also the owners and operators of Copie Kwik printing company for over 30 years.
June was a true southern belle with the most kind, compassionate soul. She had a love for reading and gardening. Her green thumb led her to joining the Daylily Garden Club. June was a talented cook and fondly remembered for her famous mac & cheese, desserts, and sweet tea. In her free time, she enjoyed attending exercise classes at the Jewish Community Center.
June was a true, gracious, southern lady, strong in character, gentle in compassion and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was a caring woman who spent most of her life thinking about others. She always surrounded herself with her friends and family, which is where she felt most comfortable and loved.
June will be dearly missed by her family and by all who knew her. But we celebrate a life well lived and we know she is now with Jesus.
Survivors include her children, Deborah Cloer Fortner (Robert) and Mark Timothy Cloer (Lisa); grandchildren, Ray Campbell Fortner and Alexandra Fortner Cole (Cummins); sister-in-law, Kathy Cloer Seibert (Vernon); her beloved dog, Rusty; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by brother, Marion McCarter (Beth).
The funeral service for June will be held at 9:30 o'clock on Friday, October 21st, at Spring Valley Baptist Church, 91 Polo Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC, the evening prior to the service from 6 until 8 o'clock. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SCOA Cares Foundation, 166 Stoneridge Dr. #100, Columbia, SC 29210.

If one ever met June you knew how sweet, warm and compassionate she was. Such a joy to be with. She was devoted to God, and her family. Through the years she had so many health issues but fought through them all with such grace and faith. She loved her children and grandchildren and was so very proud of all of them. I am so thankful that I got to know June. She was a light for us all.
