ELIZABETHTON - Rev. Kirby Dean Herman, 79, Elizabethton, beloved husband, father and Papa went home to be with his Lord, Saturday October 11, 2025 in Towanda, Pennsylvania. He was born in Rush Township, Pennsylvania to the late Carlton and Beatrice Barrows Herman. He graduated from Elk Lake High School in 1964. He served two years in the United States Army, receiving Military Police Training, then served in Vietnam.
Kirby came to Tennessee to attend Graham Bible College in 1972 after graduation, he started Bible Lighthouse Mission, which was a very active Ministry teaching Bible to children, teens and adult Bible Studies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a granddaughter. Kirby has pastored Big Laurel Bible Church for the past 27 years in Ashe County, North Carolina. He is well known for owning and operating Herman's Garbage Service for the past 26 years.
He is survived by five brothers and four sisters, his wife of 55 years Martha Simon Herman. Five Children: Naomi (Michael) Moritz, Bluff City, Nathan (Rebecca) Herman, Elizabethton. David Herman, Elizabethton, Peter Herman, of the home, Julie Herman of the home.
A Service to Celebrate the life of Kirby Herman will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2025 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Teddy Lewis officiating. Graveside Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025 in the Vester Grindstaff Cemetery. Active Pallbearer who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday will be: Nathan Herman, Peter Herman, David Herman, Jeremy Clark, Michael Moritz and Charles Scherer. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday.
