Levi Jackson Evett Jr.

COLUMBIA - Levi Jackson Evett, Jr. died Sunday, February 22, 2009. Born in Scottsboro, Ala. on August 22, 1932, he was a son of the late Levi and Orilla Bullard Evett. He served in the U.S. Army and retired after thirty years of dedicated, exemplary service. After retirement he worked at the V.A. Hospital for fifteen years. He was a member of the American Legion, the Retired Enlisted Association and National Association for Uniformed Services.

Surviving are his wife, Hideko Tachibana “Heidi” Evett; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Peter Paul of McEwen, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Nancy Evett of Gilbert; sisters and brother-in-law, Rachael and Junior Shrader of Scottsboro, Ala. and Grace Murphy of Decatur, Ala.; and grandchildren, Erica Springer of McEwen, Tenn. and Brittany and Heather Evett of Gilbert. He was predeceased by son, Kenny Evett, four brothers and a sister.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with entombment in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Rev. Ron Bryan will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the service.
