To the Hall Family,

We are so sorry to be so late in expressing our condolences to your family. Just know that you are a part of our fond memories of Columbia, SC. As soon as I heard and was able to find the on-line guest book, I made it a priority to send a message.

When I (Janice) was about five years old, my mother introduced me to Madame Hall who gave me my first French conversational book. I used it over and over again throughout the years. She made an impact on me. Then, I was taught by her daughter, Naomi whom I loved and adored then and now.

Our family loves you. We will always keep Madame Hall in our hearts.

Love,

Camelia McLain

Mrs. Hall was my French teacher at Booker T Washington HS. Her great teaching gave me a great foundation that allowed me to succeed in higher levels of the study of French at Howard University in the 60s. She had a very pleasant demeanor as she taught, and was loved and respected by her students.

I will never forget her ever present joyful spirit, her sing-song voice, and her tolerance for our French class, especially when we spoke "franglais". I remember Mrs. Hall as she taught us at Booker T Washington high school during the nineteen sixties. She has left a lasting impression in my life. What I am really delighted about is the fact that she also taught my grandson at Columbia High School and is highly respected by him. Surely the light of our Lord as shinned through her life for the world to see and her gifts has made room for her and has put her before great men. Our prayers are with her family. I never had Madam Hall, but my brother and friends did. All I can say is that she was one of the most genuine, loving and beautiful, inside and out, person I have ever met! She always had a smile and a hug, even for those of us who had the nerve to take Spanish instead of French! I even learned a few French phrases from her. I have always, and shall always, remembered her fondly! God Bless and comfort her family. We all know she will be with Him in Heaven!

You are in my thoughts and prayers. Madame Hall was my French teacher at Columbia High School. I graduated in 1985 and I still have the many fond memories of Madame Hall's classroom. I took French and transitioned to Spanish and even though Mrs. Brown was a great teacher, I could not grasp the Spanish language like I could French under Madame Hall.

My brother, Terrell Corley, who graduated from Columbia High School in 1987, and I saw Madame Hall about 2 years ago. We spoke to her and she began greeting us in French. It was amazing, even with what we thought were our young minds, were still no match for Madame Hall. All we could say was, "bonjour". Madame Hall laughed along with us. It was so good seeing her and her memories will live on forever. She is definitely a teacher that impacted the lives of her students forever. My children are 14 and 17 and one thing that's missing in our school systems today is teachers like Madame Hall.

To entire Hall Family:

September 1, 2010

My heart felt prayers go out to the entire Hall family and friends that have been touched by this great woman. The years that I have known this loving woman, is only a flash in the pan but long enough to love and respect her as a child does for it's mother. She and her husband have done an admirable job in raising the children God has blessed them with. They are like siblings and I love them very much. I regret never sitting at at her feet as one of her students to take in the wealth of knowledge in academics and in life that she has to experienced. To the family, may God's peace reign upon you during this time of great loss.

Yours In Christ,
John T. Hampton

My mother sent me this obituary. I was one of "Madame Hall's" French students from 1974 to 1977 (my name was Susan Bunton). She changed my life. Not only did I learn to speak French, but she helped me to deepen my faith as a Christian and to believe in myself when I was so uncertain about things. Words cannot even express the emotions that welled up when I saw her sweet picture...she has not changed. She is part of my own spiritual autobiography and I will never forget her...ever! I look forward to speaking French with her in the Resurrection and worshiping with her at the feet of our Savior. May she rest in peace, for she has certainly served well in this life.

To Naomi Harris, my former co-worker, Shana, John-John, my former students, and Raichelle my pal: Words alone cannot express my deepest sympathies on the home-going of Madam Hall. The many summers we worked together at Benedict will remain as fond memories. Her gentle voice---"never speaking English", her warm and caring smile and most of all, her ever positive character, will never be obliterated. God's speed, to all of you and, the entire Hall family. May He give you strength and a sense of peace in the days ahead.

Kindly,

-Basil Harris and Family
