Lorand Batten Obituary

Lorand Randolph Batten, Jr. SUMTER - Lorand Randolph Batten, Jr., 86, widower of Winnie Geddings Batten, died Sunday, April 30, 2017 at William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. Born in Wedgefield, he was a son of the late Lorand Randolph Batten, Sr. and the late Maude Rogers Batten. Mr. Batten served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired truck driver. He was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include two sons, Lorand "Buddy" Batten (Daisy) of Lugoff and Robert Eugene Batten (Donna) of Keatchie, LA; three daughters, Janice Elaine Gardner (Tommy) of Rembert, Sandra Kay Arnold (Johnny) of Knoxville, TN, and Lisa Evonne Robbins (Robert) of Dalzell; seven grandchildren, Julie M. Banister, Daniel James Smallwood, Troy Christopher Arnold, William Edward Batten, Elizabeth Nicole Olive, Joseph Henry Gainey, III, and Kayla Michelle Porter; a step-granddaughter, Tiffany Standley; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Batten (Mary) of Camden, and Shelby Batten of Sumter; two sisters, Virginia Weaver of Sumter, and Katherine Bryson of Middleburg, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. Pallbearers will be Eddie Batten, Sanford Weaver, Tommy Gardner, Joey Gainey, C.B. Strange, and Jos‚ Rios. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621, or the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
