Lorene Jones Obituary

Lorene Delores Clark Jones COLUMBIA - Lorene Delores Clark Jones received her eternal call on January 25, 2019 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina surrounded by her children. She was born to the late Daniel and Annie Bell Lorick Clark. She spent her childhood in the Ridgewood community. The early years of her marriage were spent on Parson Street in West Columbia. She settled in Columbia in 1971 where she lived until her transition. She was predeceased by the love of her life for more than 55 years, her husband, Reverend Reneth Clay Jones, Sr. From their union, they had 7 children. Currently they have 5 living children. She was educated in the Richland County Public School System and graduated from Booker T Washington High School. Upon marriage, she became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a Deaconess. She also served as First Lady of St Matthews Baptist Church #2 in Blair, SC. Grand Matron Jones was an Order of the Eastern Star Sister for more than 60 years. In this transition of mortal into immortality, the treasured memories will live on by her devoted family; son, Reneth (Kathy) Jones Jr.; four daughters, Yvonne Kennedy, Sharon (Kevin) Gaylord, Tarina Newton, and Sabrina (Brian) Suber; two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, one daughter-in-law, 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, her best friend for more than 65 years, Millie Davis Whittleton, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other loving relatives, church family and dear friends. The homegoing service will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1218 Lyon Street, Columbia, SC with burial in Memorial Gardens of Columbia, 9301 Wilson Boulevard, Columbia, SC. Viewing will be held today, from 2pm until 8pm with family visitation from 6-7 pm. Flowers and condolences may be sent by visiting www.bosticktompkinsinc.com.

I have fond memories of the Jones Family growing up on Parson Street in West Columbia. I visited the store often as a child and Mr. and Mrs. Jones were always kind to me. Prayers to the Family in the loss of the Queen of this great tribe. "Turk"
