Mark Lindsey Obituary

Mark McDonald Lindsey, Jr.
September 21, 1944 - July 5, 2022
Bennettsville, South Carolina - Mark McDonald Lindsey, Jr. entered into his eternal rest in the company of his loving and devoted wife, Mary Milstead Lindsey, on July 5th, 2022, at his home in Bennettsville, South Carolina. Mark was born on September 21, 1944, as the first child of his parents, Dr. Mark McDonald Lindsey and Ms. Janet James Lindsey-Petris. Mark claimed Hamlet, North Carolina, as his home, but due to the demands of his father's medical education, Mark's early childhood was a dynamic period of much travel. These times certainly helped sow the seeds of a wanderlust that only grew stronger with age. Beginning with the highways and backroads of the American south, Mark loved a road trip, a family vacation, or a grand adventure. He never passed an opportunity to recount memories of his many favorite destinations including Jackson, Wyoming; San Francisco, California; Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and of course, Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.
Mark attended Darlington School in Rome, Georgia as a boarding student where he met his first wife, Donna Jacks Lindsey Griffin. After attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Mark returned to Rome to raise his three children whom he loved dearly, Andrew McDonald Lindsey (Susan), Sarah Louise Lindsey McCrea, and Todd Harper Lindsey (Jessica).
Mark's personal and professional lives were as varied as his many travels. Professionally, Mark was an artist & photographer; a restauranter & entrepreneur; a tradesman & technophile; and a teacher every step of the way. He was driven to help others whenever he could, and he loved nothing more than sharing the lessons of his own life with those he loved. In his spare time, you might have found Mark at the helm of his sailboat, swimming with his children in the ocean, listening to live music on a sunny hillside, cheering on his beloved Tar Heels, taking in the majestic sights around the world with his wife and traveling partner Mary, or happily toiling in his garden, however, Mark was never happier than when he was in the company of his grandchildren.
In addition to Mary and his children, Mark is survived by his two brothers William Lindsey (Helen) and David Lindsey (Kimberly); his stepbrother James Comerford (Camilla); his grandchildren Lindsey, Elise, & Caroline McCrea; Sabrina & Ophelia Lindsey; and Eva & Harper Lindsey. Mark is also survived by two stepchildren: Scott Howell (Julie) and Nannette Frye (Edward); and two step grandchildren: Madeleine and Harrison Howell.
Services will be held in Bennettsville at the First Presbyterian Church at eleven o'clock on Saturday, July 9, 2022. Burroughs Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to Community Kitchen of Bennettsville, South Carolina or the First Presbyterian Church of Bennettsville, SC.
