Mark attended the University of South Carolina, and worked early in his career with his brother at Stroman Beauty Supply. His interest in fitness led to a short career as a trainer with Gold's Gym, and he periodically toyed with the idea of becoming a realtor. He had tremendous pride in several homes he renovated, and loved nothing more than seeing potential in a piece of real estate and envisioning a better future for it.
Mark loved to live on the edge - riding a Harley, driving a jet ski or fast boat, and, sadly, experimenting with drugs to attain a high that he couldn't find on his own. Years of juggling sobriety and addiction took their toll, and the Mark we remember (witty, charming, good-looking, loving to friends and family) faded as the addiction to drugs grew. During the times of sobriety, he dreamed of counseling others and helping them face their own challenges. Perhaps, what he could not do in life, he can offer through the lessons of his early death.
A private memorial service for Mark will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 4, at Main Street Methodist Church in Dillon, SC. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Columbia SPCA.

Mark was my personal trainer at the gym, and he made a difference in my life. Many days were spent discussing his latest remodeling project and our mutual love for dogs. I know he will be missed.

I was so so sorry to hear about Mark. I worked with him at the gym and loved being around him. He was always a bright spot in my day. He will be sorely missed and I am sure the lives he touched here will remain forever changed in a positive way. I am praying for all of you, for comfort and peace during these tough days and the days ahead. I know you will miss him so much and hopefully his story can impact others struggling with addiction. I have lost a loved one to addiction too so I understand the hurt you are experiencing. God bless you!! Lara H
