Mary R. Smyser

Mary R. Smyser HOPKINS Mary R. Smyser, 69, of Hopkins, SC, passed away November 8, 2016. She was born December 30, 1946, in Columbia, SC, to the late John Sherard Roof, Sr. and Mildred Bryant Roof. Mary worked as a registrar for Girl Scouts of America. She was also a troop leader for the Girl Scouts and volunteered as a band parent at Lower Richland High School. Mary attended Shandon United Methodist Church until her health declined. Mary is survived by her children, George Andrew Smyser, III (Sharon), Mary Diane Smyser, and John Paul Smyser (Rita). She is also survived by four grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, George A. Smyser, Jr., and a brother, John S. Roof, Jr. A graveside funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday November 14, 2016, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia SC 29209. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209.
