Michael Catalano Obituary

Michael Catalano

July 1, 1951 - June 13, 2024

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - After a short illness, Michael Catalano (72) passed away surrounded by his loving wife and four children on June 13, 2024, in Savannah, GA. Michael was born to Dr. Edward William Catalano, Sr. and Mary Suzanne Harrison on July 1, 1951, in Nashville, TN. Michael was the fourth of eleven children. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Louise Marie Catalano, his four children: Marc Edward Catalano (Aleksandra), Ana Louisa Catalano Weeks (Dominic), Maria Teresa McCauley (Timothy), Peter James Catalano (Victoria), and six grandchildren: Orla Frances, Aidan Thomas, and Eloise Amalia Weeks, Lydia Scott and Nora Grace McCauley, and Henry Michael Catalano.

Michael graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia, SC, in 1969. He went on to earn his B.A. degree in Political Science with Honors from Emory University in 1973, followed by his Juris Doctor and Master of Science of Foreign Service in 1978 from Georgetown University.

Michael started out his career as an attorney at Bechtel Corp. in San Francisco, CA, where he met Louise. They were married on December 22, 1979, in Oakland, CA.

Michael enjoyed great professional success and his career took him all over the globe, from Europe to the Middle East and South America. He served as International Counsel for Hospital Corporation of America, Senior Vice President for Magellan Health Services, Chief Legal Counsel for Charter Medical Corp., President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board for America Service Group, and finally CEO for Forensic Medical Management Services. He was well respected among his peers as a talented leader and a good friend.

More than professional success, Michael took pride in his family. His most revered title was "Papa." He loved his children collectively and individually and was a constant presence in their lives. He taught them be grateful for their blessings and led by example. He was also a devoted husband. He and Louise had many wonderful adventures travelling together at home and abroad. He loved to spend time with his family and cook big dinners, the best of which included his signature three-meat meatballs. Michael provided his family with deep and unconditional love which will never fade.

Michael also loved his ten brothers and sisters very much, and often told stories about growing up in a big family. After he retired, he moved to Hilton Head Island where he enjoyed the beautiful coastal scenery with Louise and their dog Lily. During his last days, his wife and children were all with him, holding his hands, talking to him, and playing his favorite songs. He will be deeply and profoundly missed.

The funeral service is open to family and friends, and will be on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church.

So Sad to hear of Mike's death.
I grew up with Mike, and played baseball, with him. He was one of the best players in South Carolina. Even bating cleanup ahead of multiple future major league players. Just a great guy and fantastic athlete. I only have wonderful memories of Mike blasting home run after home run. May God Bless you Mike and your family. You parked it every time.
