Michael Duffy Obituary

Michael E. Duffy COLUMBIA - Services for Michael Edward Duffy, 70, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2017, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, with burial in Woodridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:15 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Duffy died Friday, July 28, 2017. Born in New York City in 1946, Mike spent his early years on City Island, NY, until moving with his parents to Miami, and later, Daytona Beach, FL. He was an only child and learned at an early age the value of hard work, a solid education, and a strong commitment to one's spouse and family. Upon graduation from the University of Florida, he married Sue Railey. In 1984, the family moved to Columbia, where Mike soon founded Resource Properties and Duffy Homes. Mike was a licensed real estate broker and homebuilder. He attended First Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at his home on Lake Murray. He was an avid traveler and member of The Palmetto Club, the Supper Club, USTA teams and the Lake Murray Power Squadron of which he had been Lt. Commander. Mike was the son of Edward Duffy of Brooklyn, NY, and Alice Duffy Wolford of Daytona Beach, FL, the stepson of Mary Duffy and William Wolford, all deceased. He was predeceased by his loving wife Sue, with whom he shared 44 years, and survived by daughters, Kim and Laura (husband Ryan); son, Brian (wife Krystyna); grandchildren, Mya, Luke, Railey, Sydney, Trent, Skylar and Zander. Dear Duffy Family,
I am sorry that our condolences are late but we have been on vacation for two weeks. We want you to know how greatly saddened we are by the sudden passing of your Dad. We had recently seen and talked to him at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia as we are members there now. And we are neighbors with Dara Hearn at Saluda River Club. Please know that our hearts and prayers go out to each of you as you go through this time of grieving over the sudden loss of your Dad, which has probably brought up grieving the loss of your Mom again. God bless you mightily with His strength.

Dear Brian, Kim, and Laura,
I am very sorry for your loss. It came so sudden. During childhood years back in Wilde Wood, I remember both of your parents to be so nice. I sure won't forget them or their three fine children. I hope you all find comfort with good memories and watching the next generation grow older.

To Kim Laura and Ryan
Over the last few years we have enjoyed your Dad's company. I especially liked to talk with him about our grandpa in City Island NY where we both spent time when we were kids. Just three weeks ago we were on a cruise together and it was so nice to be with him again. We were shocked to hear of his tragic passing and we will always miss this wonderful fun loving guy.
