Michael Kenneally Obituary

Michael Sean Kenneally
August 24, 1969 - November 3, 2021
Mount Pleasant, South Carolina - On Wednesday, November 3, 2021, Michael Sean Kenneally, a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away at age 52 after a long battle with complications from COVID.
Sean was born on August 24, 1969 in Norfolk, VA to Marta Jo Kenneally Stiver and James Greg Kenneally. He grew up in Irmo, SC, with his brother and sister who were his first best friends. They were raised by one of the strongest women who instilled values, love and kindness. Sean enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad. After high school, Sean attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. After college he attended the police academy and began a career in law enforcement. In May of 1992, he was hired by the Mount Pleasant Police Department. He would spend the next 27 years serving and protecting the citizens of Mount Pleasant. Sean rose through the ranks and in 2012 was promoted to Captain. He served in several different Units within the department including Patrol, Special Operations, and Narcotics. He was a member of the Special Response Team (SRT) the predecessor to their current SWAT Team. He served and was a member of the Marine Unit. He finished his career leading the Field Operations Bureau as Captain and retired to pursue other interests in 2019. His colleagues describe him as an incredible leader, phenomenal story teller, an unselfish public servant, and a true brother in blue.
Sean loved his family and friends deeply and was known for his infectious smile, his sense of humor, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He was loved by all who knew him. When he wasn't working, he was on the water. His true passion was scuba diving and spearfishing. He was always up for an adventure. Being outdoors is what made him happiest. He spent time on land but lived life on the water.
Sean was preceded in death by his father, James Greg Kenneally. He is survived by his wife, Tina Brookshire Kenneally, daughter Reeves Trussell Kenneally (20), stepdaughter Julia Holland Vaughn (16), his mother Marta Jo Kenneally Stiver (Jim), sister Shannon Marie Kenneally, his brother Douglas Scott Kenneally and too many friends to name.

My deepest condolences. Mr Kenneally sound like a great person. I think we are neighbors, I live on Lieben Road and saw all the commotion across the street with MP Police, cars motorcycles etc. Being curious, I found myself wanting to video what might be going on....bottom line, I taped the touching, beautiful procession coming up Lieben Road towards 17N. It was an awesome sight . If you'll want it just contact me 8433243545. I will be more than glad to send it to you. Be blessed

Dear Ms Kenneally and family, I was very fortunate to have worked with Sean during his years at the police department. He always had a smile, usually had some kind of crazy story to tell and was very direct when serving in a supervisory capacity. My favorite memory, early in his years at the PD, was about him and other officers trying to round up some horses that had gotten loose in the Town. He called the agency to tell me the story which was absolutely hilarious! You couldn't help smiling when his name was mentioned because he was such a nice fella. I hate that he was taken so young! He will be sorely missed!! My heartfelt condolences to you and all his family!

Tina and family, Sean and I both started working for the town around the same time. Throughout our careers. we would find ourselves working the same call, Sean with PD and I with Fire. I can tell you that seeing a familiar face when trying to instill calm in a chaotic scene is reassuring. Sean always represented the department, the town and most importantly, himself in a professional manner. I am honored to have known Sean through the years and am saddened by his passing.
