Mildred Parvin Obituary

Mildred Ruth Parvin LEXINGTON - Mildred Ruth Parvin, 96, passed away peacefully January 31, 2017, at the Presbyterian Community of Lexington, SC. Arrangements for her cremation were made with Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium of Lexington, SC. In the spring in the chapel of the Summerville Presbyterian Community, Mildred's former residence of many years, the family will conduct a memorial service and then will observe a ceremonial interment of her urn next to that of her husband, Rev. Wilbur Rood Parvin, in the Old White Church Cemetery of Summerville, SC. This ceremony will be arranged by Parks Funeral Home of Summerville. Memorial gifts in Mildred's memory may be made to the Joy Gift Fund (supporting retired ministers and their spouses) or the Camp Fellowship Fraser Endowment Fund in care of Trinity Presbytery, 554 Davega Drive, Lexington, SC 29073, or on-line by clicking the DONATE icon at www.trinity-presbytery.org. A loving aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mildred nurtured her family with tenderness, faith, joy, and great cooking. She was an able supporter in her husband's early years as a forester with a paper company, a captain and bomber pilot in WWII, and a seminary student. She grew into the role of a minister's wife in Wilbur's Presbyterian Church pastorates in Winnsboro, Lugoff, Summerville, Ninety-Six, Cross Hill and Camp Fellowship in South Carolina, as well as those in Erwin, TN, and Jacksonville, FL. She continued this role in Wilbur's retirement as he became a supply pastor in various churches in Florida and South Carolina. Mildred supported the church in her own right: the Summerville Presbyterian Women of the Church honored her with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and countless two-year-olds got a foundation in the faith (and had a lot of fun) in the Sunday School class she conducted for them, especially in Erwin and in Summerville. The daughter of Benjamin Franklin Christie and Edna Peden Christie, Mildred was born in Smithville, GA, on August 16, 1920, and graduated high school there. She met and married Wilbur after her family had moved to Gainesville, FL, where she worked for a time at Woolworth's. Mildred was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother, Eldred Christie, her sisters, Norma Christie and Verna Lee Stewart, and her two sons, Benjamin and Charles Parvin (survived by Ann of Pineville, LA). Mildred is survived by her youngest son, Clint Parvin (Nancy) of Chattanooga,TN; her two daughters, Wilma Leary (Michael) of Swannanoa, NC, and Rebecca Ganjehsani (Victor) of Fayetteville, NC; by three grandsons: Warren Ganjehsani (Carmen) of Lexington, SC; Derrick Ganjehsani (Wanda) of Columbus, OH; and Shawn Leary (Noelle) of Black Mountain, NC; and by her three granddaughters: Lee Anne Bailie (Bailie) of Spartanburg, SC; Bridget Leary of Swannanoa, NC; and Trina Barron (Darren) of Pineville, LA; and by seven great-grandchildren.
