Minnie Motley
December 22, 1929 - April 20, 2023
Elgin, South Carolina - Minnie Louise Kirkland Motley, 93, of Elgin, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Born in Kershaw County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Nettie Ellis Kirkland and the wife of the late Samuel Marion Motley. Minnie was a lifelong member of Sandhill Heights Baptist Church in Elgin. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and caring for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Minnie is survived by her sons, Marion Motley (Gail) and Michael Motley (Janet); her grandchildren, Travis Motley (Alison), Julie Roach, wife of the late Matthew Roach, and Christy Casey (Michael); great-grandchildren, Josh, Nicholas, Jacob, Mason, Ainsley, Ethan, Eli, Rhett, Bryson, and Abby; as well as her siblings, Albert, Edna, Sue, and Daisy.
In addition to her husband and parents, Minnie was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy Motley; and her siblings, Henry, James, Danny Joe, Dunk, Sam, Nettie Mae, and Sally Belle.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Sandhill Heights Baptist Church, Elgin. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the WMU of Sandhill Heights, PO Box 96, Elgin, SC 29045.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice as well as all of Mrs. Motley's other caregivers for their compassionate care.
