Mr. Younginer died Thursday, March 12, 2009. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Murray Jacob Younginer and Reba Edna Koon. A graduate of the State Technical Institute of Memphis, he attended the University of Memphis and was a thirty-one year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a storekeeper chief.
Mr. Younginer enjoyed gardening, yardwork and spending time with his poodles. He was an avid Gamecock fan, lifelong optimist where the Chicago Cubs were concerned and supporter of animal welfare. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the Pentecostal Holiness faith and former deacon.
A loving husband and dedicated father and grandfather, Mr. Younginer is survived by his wife of forty years, Dorothy “Dot” Peterson Younginer; daughter, Marilyn Derrick of Irmo; sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Loretta Williamson of Lexington and Norman and Sonya Williamson of Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy Kaye and Tom Wingard of Lexington and Wendy Renee and John Eleazer of Irmo; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; beloved poodles, DJ, Jan and Jakie. He was predeceased by his former wife, Annie; daughter, Barbara Lynn Younginer; and son-in-law, Julius R. Derrick.
