Nancy Lourie Obituary

Nancy Elfenbaum Lourie

November 5, 1932 - December 29, 2025

Jacksonville, Florida - Nancy Elfenbaum Lourie, 93, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Born on November 5, 1932, Nancy grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from Hughes High School. Soon after meeting her lifelong soulmate, Mick, while on vacation in Miami Beach, she married and moved to Columbia South Carolina in March 1954. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband of 62 years, Abraham "Mick" Lourie, who preceded her in death in 2016. Together they built a warm and love filled life, raised their four children, and hosted many friends and family, in a home filled with warmth, laughter, Jewish traditions, and love.

A lifelong homemaker, Nancy dedicated herself to her family and community. She was an active volunteer at Beth Shalom Synagogue and with Hadassah, reflecting her deep commitment to her Jewish faith and heritage. Her dynamic personality and zest for life were evident in everything she did-from hosting joyful holiday gatherings to playing Mahjang and Rummikub with friends and family. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing tennis and golf, playing piano, dancing, singing, and was known to be an avid shopper!

She was a lifelong reader, loved studying history, especially British history, a love she learned from her proudly British father.

Nancy cherished her role and provided the foundation as matriarch of a large and loving family. She is survived by her children: Allison (Michael) Ullman of Boca Raton, FL; Louis Lourie of Murfreesboro, TN; Joan (Lee) Rosenberg of Jacksonville, FL; and Adam (Cindy) Lourie of Atlanta, GA. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jared (Tabitha) Ullman of Delray Beach, FL; Ryan Ullman of Los Angeles; Alexander (Chelsa) Lourie of Nashville, TN; Spencer Lourie of Atlanta; Daniel Schwartz of Atlanta; Eden Schwartz (engaged to Tyler Mayo) of Asheville, NC; Margo Schwartz of Washington DC; Noah Lourie of Atlanta; Maxwell (Tatiana) Lourie of Atlanta; and Isaac Lourie of Atlanta and her great grandchildren: Beckett, Keaton and Hunter Ullman and Rowan and Julian Lourie.

She was preceded in death by her adoring husband Abraham "Mick" Lourie, by parents Hyman and Ann Elfenbaum; sister Ruth (Bob) Berg; and brother Stanley (Miriam) Elfenbaum.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2nd at the Hebrew Benevolent Society Cemetery, 720 Blanding Street.

Steven and I were saddened to hear of the recent passing of Nancy. I (Sally) remember her fondly from my years in Hadassah and spent several wonderful afternoons at Mick's and her home on Lakeshore Drive. She was a wonderful hostess and a very sweet woman. Steven also remembers Nancy from Beth Shalom Synagogue, as she was a very active member. May the Lourie family be surrounded with beautiful memories of her.
