David E. Lourie, P.E. of Metairie, died February 11, 2026, following a brief illness. Born in Chicago on April 6, 1956, he was the son of the late Ernest Eugene and Theodora Merekas Lourie.
David was a 1974 graduate of Lane Technical High School in Chicago. He was also a 1979 graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) with a Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering (BSCE) and a 1981 graduate of IIT with a Master of Science Civil Engineering (MSCE) with an academic focus in geotechnical engineering.
He began his professional career in 1979 with Soil Testing Services (now part of AECOM), Northbrook, Illinois. From 1981 to 1990, he held various positions with McClelland Engineers, Inc. in Texas and Louisiana. From 1990 to 1992, he was President of Fugro-McClelland (Southeast), Inc. He was the founder and CEO of Lourie Consultants,
Metairie, Louisiana, since 1992.
Mr. Lourie was an adjunct professor at the University of New Orleans (UNO), teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering, ground modification, soft-soil engineering, and earth support systems. As much as David enjoyed being a practitioner, he truly enjoyed teaching geotechnical engineering at UNO; "molding young minds" as he described it.
Mr. Lourie was a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society, National Society of Professional, Engineers, ASCE, American Council of Engineering Companies/Louisiana, Institute of Brownfield Professionals, Chi Epsilon, and GBA/The Geoprofessional Business Association (formerly ASFE).
He enjoyed cooking, wine tastings and wine dinners, watching sporting events, especially the Saints, Pelicans, and Tulane football; attending Louisiana food festivals; and annual get -togethers with his fraternity brothers, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Illinois Beta Chapter.
David is survived by his brother, Walter Lourie; and Stephanie Bialobok; and numerous cousins, friends, and colleagues.
