Otis Chestnut Obituary

COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Mr. Otis Chestnut, 2841 Cliffside Circle, Columbia, S.C., will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, West Columbia, S.C., with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held in the chapel of Pearson’s Funeral Home on Friday, January 15, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with the family being present from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
 
Services entrusted to the staff of Pearson’s Funeral Home.
 
Otis “Dutchie” Chestnut was born November 8, 1941, in Lexington County, He was the son of the late Alexander and Emily D. Chestnut. He entered into eternal rest January 11, 2010, in Providence Hospital. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Chestnut.
 
He was educated in the public schools of Lexington County and graduated from Lakeview High School. He became a member of Mt. Pisgah AME Church at an early age and sang in the choir for many years. He was employed at Crowson Stone Printing for 49 years.
 
Otis was an avid Carolina Gamecock football fan. He also loved traveling, fishing and going to the beach.
 
Otis is survived by his wife of 42 years, Loretta Flateau Chestnut; and two sons, Capt. Otis Eugene (Brenda) Chestnut and Keith (Evelyn) Chestnut Sr.; a brother, George (Faye) Chestnut; and a sister, Deborah L. Chestnut; uncles, William Brown, Walter Brown, Frank (Annie Ruth) Dowdy; aunt, Mildred Brooks; 10 grandchildren, Otis Isiah Chestnut, Robert M. Chestnut, Olivia Chestnut, Ethan Chestnut, Kateara Chestnut, Keith Alex Chestnut Jr., Madison Chestnut, Megan Baker, Gabrielle Barber, Brittany Robinson; brothers-in-law, Albert Flateau Jr., Keith D. (Marsha) Flateau; sisters-in-law, Cynthia F. (Willis) Clarkson and Beryl Flateau-Good; and special nephew, Jeffrey T. Charles; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and devoted friends of the family, Tracy Jacobs and Terri Chestnut.
