Paul Ross Obituary
July 12, 1947 - March 21, 2021
Elgin, South Carolina - Paul Ernest Ross, 83 of Elgin, SC passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Eddie and Mildred Ross, sister, Ida Lee Motley, and daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Marie R. Wood. He is survived by his daughter, Paula Ross Hastings (Scott) of Lawrenceville, GA, his sister, Carolyn R. Fortner (Jack) of Elgin, SC, Grandchildren, Ross Hastings, Chris Wood, Bobby Wood, Paul Wood, Daniel Wood, and George Wood. He also leaves many nieces and a host of relatives.
Born July 12, 1937 on the family farm in Blaney, SC (now Elgin, SC), Paul attended Blaney High School and joined the City of Columbia Fire Department as a Firefighter in the late 1950's and retired in the late 1980's. Paul also volunteered with the Red Cross for years after retirement and went headfirst into many natural disasters to assist with his firefighter training.
He was a founding member of The Crossings Community Church (ARP) assisting in servant leadership positions for many years, including the Men's Wednesday Prayer Breakfast, and more.
Above all, Paul loved God, his Lord and Savior. He also loved his family, the family farm, Blue Grass music, the mountains and beach, a good road trip, grits and sweets from Lizard's Thicket, NASCAR, a warm fire, Clemson, a caffeinated cup of coffee any month of the year, and Edisto Beach sunrises and sunsets.
A funeral service for Paul will be held at 12:00PM on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Crossings Community Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 2:00PM at Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crossings Community Church. Also, please consider donating or sending a meal to your local Fire House/Department.
