Peter DiVenere Obituary

Peter Louis Mark DiVenere PAWLEYS ISLAND - Peter Louis Mark DiVenere son of Peter and Ester DiVenere was lifted up to the Lord Saturday October 14, 2017. Born January 29, 1943, he longed to be the masked cowboy making sure justice was served. He was a man among boys on the playground. He led the New Canaan Rams to a state title in 1960. He carried his team and the opposing team down the field 15 yards at a time until they scored. That earned him a scholarship to attend the University of South Carolina with the greatest mascot in college football. He fought to the death in everything he believed in. He stood up for his teammates his friends and most of all his family. He fought for his country the bald eagle was his icon. He swept his freckled faced redheaded playground sweetheart, Ane, off of her feet. She cheered him on for 51 years. The love and trust they built helped make this world a better place. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Church, Friday at 11 a.m., October 20, 2017. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Hi boys,
.....this a cousin of your dad. My Name is Dee DiVenere, who visited your family overnight when you were both little boys... followed by a great walk and talk with your father on myrtle beach the next day, many years ago. His middle name of Louis , well, he was named after my dad, the youngest DiVenere brother, another wonderful man.
I sent him pics of himself taken over the years. I am yet, another keeper of family memories and inherited items.
My best thoughts to all of you. Hugs, too.

Ane and family - It was such sad news to learn of Pete's passing from John Breeden. He was a hero to all who knew him and I wish we had seen mire of him since Carolina days. May The Lord wrap you in the comfort of his arms in your great loss.

Arthur and I met Ane and Peter at Fort Bragg NC when they became our neighbors and life long friends. We had lots of laughs and had our first babies while we were sharing the duplex on post.
The DiVeneres were East Coast and we were Deep South which led to many conversations about our
family traditions! Ane was preparing lasagna and looking for cannolis for dessert, while I was preparing roast, rice and gravy with butter beans and cornbread. We learned a lot from each other
and shared many happy times as young couples starting out on our own in the military. We will find joy remembering happy times.

I shall treasure the days when Pete and I would solve the problems of the world after we had sent the others out to play golf. He had the most unusual trait that I have seen in no other; he would get furious with you when you would not let him do something for you. He was a magnificently generous man and will leave a void in all who knew him. RIP Pete.

I will always remember Pete as a huge bear of a man, huge grin on his face, huge love in his heart. He and my father, Bumpy Thompson, had a long-term mutual admiration society; Pete's friendship was steadfast and generous and so much valued. He was a dear, dear man. Sending love to Peter and Ane and the rest of the Divenere family.

I smile as I remember Peter sitting at the kitchen table in Nantucket assembling cooked lobster meat into a giant 8 lb lobster shell for one of their many dinner summer parties. Godspeed, Peter.
Much love to dear Ane, Adam, Peter and family.
