Polly Katherine Padgett Marsh died peacefully on December 28, 2013, surrounded by her family at Agape Hospice house in Columbia. She was born on January 16, 1932, in Ellenboro, NC. Polly grew up in railroad towns of North and South Carolina as the daughter of a railroad supervisor. She completed high school in Camden and married local farmer, Robert Marsh, Sr. She raised a family of six children along with a milk cow, pigs, and a full garden, and partnered with her husband to raise row crops and cattle. In 1980, they established HoField Garden. During the 1980's, she was instrumental in establishing the South Carolina chapter of WIFE (Women Involved in Farm Economics), a grassroots organization whose goal is to call attention to agricultural conditions, educate consumers, and work for better farm product prices. She completed the Master Canner program through the Clemson Extension Service and, later in life, attended Columbia College. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, was active in various church and community activities, and volunteered for a local hospice. She loved to cook, read, sew, travel, and watch her flower garden grow. Polly was the daughter of Woodell and Beatrice Padgett and the widow of Robert Mickle Marsh, Sr., of Camden. She is survived by her six children, Robert Marsh, Jr. and his wife Jan of Camden, Katherine Marsh Wolfram and her husband William of Schenectady, NY, Woody Marsh and his wife Gail of Rembert, Will Marsh and his wife Vicky of Rembert, Cynthia Marsh Cook and her husband, Jim, of Greenwood, SC, and Sue Marsh Hardin and her husband, Grover, of Camden; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her cat, Honey Bear. She was predeceased by brothers, John Marlan Padgett and Nelson Padgett. Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
