March 20, 1940 - June 12, 2022
Batesburg, South Carolina - Raymond Dewitt Hughes, Sr., 82, of Batesburg, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 15th at Samaria Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Metts will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, and other times at his home.
Mr. Hughes was born in Greenwood, SC, the son of the late Colie Hughes and Lucile Maroney. He was a member of Samaria Baptist Church. Mr. Hughes was the owner and operator of Dewitts Autoparts for 4o years. He loved to go to Nascar races, garage sales, as well as going shrimping. He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan!
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Sallie Hughes; children, Dewitt Hughes, Jr. and Allison Hughes; and grandchildren, Rhea and Cole Hughes. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Jean McCullough and many extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Kneece, Faye Hall, Cleo Burgess and Carolyn Smith.
