Robert Strube Obituary

Robert Alfred Strube CAYCE - Robert Alfred Strube, 92, of Cayce, SC, passed away July 29, 2017. He was born in Chester, SC to the late John and Mary Haggerty Strube. Robert graduated from Chester High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Navy in July of 1944. Mr. Strube is a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Alaska and Washington. He was a radio man on the Bomber Squadron planes. He served until 1952 after serving 7 years, 7 months, and 27 days. After serving our country, he moved to Columbia where he lived at the YMCA while attending Watchmaker School at Tech. He later moved to Cayce and married the love of his life, Nellie Ruth Miller on August 25, 1956. After various jobs, he began work delivering propane gas. He retired from Amerigas in 2000. He also loved making things from wood. Mr. Strube was a faithful blood donor to the Red Cross giving 6 gallons. He was also a supporter of the Gideons. Mr. Strube was a member of Broadacres Baptist Church in Cayce. While attending there he served as a Deacon and teacher. He taught Sunday School at Twilight Manor (Nursing Home) of Cayce, for many years. Robert is survived by a son, William (Janice) Strube, of Cayce; a granddaughter, Melissa Strube of Cayce; and a grandson Christopher (Kati) Strube of West Columbia. He is also survived by a great-grandson, Ari Strube, of West Columbia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Strube; and a sister, Annie Mae Kibler of Ohio. The family would like to thank Jenni Lynn Assisted Living, Lexington Medical Center, and Lexington Extended Care for their love and concern over the past 5 years. They would also like to thank Agape Hospice House for care during his final days. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A graveside funeral will take place at Southland Memorial Gardens on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers please make contributions in his memory to Agape Hospice House, 128 Library Hill Ln., Lexington, SC 29072 or Broadacres Baptist Church, 2350 Taylor Rd., Cayce, SC 29033.
