Samuel Fiorini Obituary

SUMTER — Samuel Joseph Fiorini, 80, husband of Gloria McCreary Fiorini, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Tuomey Healthcare System.
 
Born in Tamaqua, PA, he was a son of the late James Vincent Fiorini and Splendora DiFrancesco Fiorini.
 
Mr. Fiorini was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Pottstown High School in Pottstown, PA. He attended and played football for George Washington University. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and also earned a masters degree from the University of Georgia. He taught at Sumter School Districts #2 and #17 and also at University of South Carolina, Columbia and Sumter campuses. He was a retired senior master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean conflict.
 
Surviving are his wife of Sumter; four sons, Samuel J. Fiorini, Jr. of Columbia, James Richard Fiorini of Columbia, Ronald Mark Fiorini and wife Karen of Raleigh, NC, and Kenneth Vincent Fiorini and wife Kendal of Raleigh, NC; four sisters, Yolanda Adams of Tamaqua, PA, Nancy Hess of Hometown, PA, Rose Banditelli of Orwigsburg, PA, and Betty Machamer of McClain, VA; and five grandchildren, Heather, Nicholas, Cameron, Morgan and Alexis.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Charles Donovan, C.Ss.R. officiating.
 
Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery with full military honors.
 
Pallbearers will be Joe Majar, Dr. Jerry Jackson, Dick Metz, Paul Mouradjian, Jr., L.D. Rivers, Robert Bateman.
 
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Godfathers Golf Group at Sunset Country Club.
 
A scripture reading will be held from 4:30-5:00 p.m. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5-7 and other times at the home, 6 Hilltop St.
 
Memorials may be made to the Sumter Artists Guild, P.O. Box 1316, Sumter, SC 29151 or to St. Jude Catholic Church, 611 W. Oakland Avenue, Sumter, SC 29151.

Please know that you are in my prayers. Mr. Fiorini taught art when I was a Cherryvale Elementary School in the late 1960's/early 1970's. Such a nice, soft-spoken man who I have never forgotten. God Bless and thank you for sharing him with so many.
