Samuel Hair Obituary

Dr. Samuel Hair JOHNSTON - Servics for Dr. Samuel Marvin Hair will be held at Johnston First Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 20th at 2 pm. The family will be receiving friends at the church immediately following the service. A private burial will be in Sunset Gardens memorial Park in Johnston on Saturday morning. Bland Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements. Dr. Hair was born in Windsor, SC on January 22, 1935. He was a son of Samuel Mathias Hair and Suzie Webb Hair. He was a 1956 graduate of Clemson University. After his graduation at Clemson he worked several years as assistant county agent for the Clemson Extension Service in Edgefield County. He continued to be a "Clemson Tiger" all of his life. Sam received his DMD degree from the University of Louisville in 1964. He did a one-year rotating internship at the William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, Texas. He served a tour in Vietnam with the Army's 145th Combat Aviation Battalion and also with the 12th combat group's Medcap team. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Returning from Vietnam, he set up his dental practice in Johnston, SC. He practiced a total of 46 years in Johnston and Edgefield. He loved his patients and missed them so when he retired in 2010. He was a member and had served as a deacon and board chair of Johnston First Baptist Church. He served on several pastoral search teams as chairman. He had served in the past as a children's Sunday school teacher and was presently a teacher of the Jack Reeves class. He was a past member of the Jaycees and the Lions Club, serving a term as president. He was also presently serving on the Edgefield County Hospital Board. Dr. Hair is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anne Lanham Hair; by a son, David Hair (Micki) of Johnston; and three daughters, Julie Hammond (David) of Laurens, Anne Marie Stone (Hugh) of Chester, and Susan Dooley (Mark) of Atlanta; by grandchildren: Keven Hair (Krista) USCG in NC, Nicholas Hammond in Myrtle Beach, Will and Morgan Stone of Chester, and Ben, Kate, and Caroline Dooley of Atlanta. He is also survived by two sisters, Polly Chapman and Sue Roe of Aiken and brother Dr. Jakie Hair of Stillwater, OK. Preceding him in death other than his parents were two sisters, Sam Ella Duke and Frances Wilson. So sorry to hear of Dr. Hair passing.He was Our dentist for thirty years.We had a hard time getting another dentist, no one was like Dr. Hair. We loved him. We have great memories of him . Prayers for all his family.
