Parker Young CAMDEN - A memorial service to honor the life of Samuel Parker Young, 88, of Camden, SC will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Camden. Rev. John Hallman will officiate. The family will receive friends in John Knox Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Samuel Parker Young, husband of Helen Mays Young, died Monday, December 29, 2014. He was born in Sumter, SC, the son of the late Samuel Lee Young, Jr., and Jennie Mayer Young. Parker was a graduate of Hillcrest High School, Dalzell. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University and a Master of Science degree at the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL. Parker served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and married Helen Mays on December 30, 1956. Besides his wife, Parker is survived by his children, Lorrie Anderson (Dave), Jennifer Wight (Mark), Angie Helms (Mike), Stephen Young (Julie), William Young (Lynn), and Jean Clark; grandchildren, Dale McCaskill (Tracey), Marie Shirley (Michael), Leigh Ponniah (Ian), William Young (Shannon), Hunter Young (Jennifer), Brittney Muehe (Mat), Jared Ginter, Alison Cronin (Ryan), and Hannah Clark; and great-grandchildren, Ella Young, Caroline Shirley, Parker Shirley, Andrew Shirley and Kai Ponniah. Besides his parents, Parker was predeceased by his sister, Jean Booth. Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
