Steven Anderson Obituary

Steven Richard (Cam) Anderson

February 16, 1945 - June 7, 2025

Savannah, Georgia - Cam Anderson died in his sleep on June 7th, from respiratory failure and complications from Alzheimer's disease, while in St. Joseph's hospital in Savannah, GA. He had recently moved from Columbia to Savannah to be closer to his family.

Cam was born on February 16th, 1945, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Flora and Nelson "Andy" Anderson. Andy was in the Navy, and Cam lived all over the world as a child. He graduated from Fork Union Military High School in Virginia and went on to graduate from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. It was in Charleston that he met his 1st wife of 18 years, Elizabeth Carson Livingston. They had two boys, Wells and Roscoe Anderson.

After college, Cam was ROTC commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army and graduated from Jump School in Ft. Bragg in 1969. He then went on to proudly serve his country in Vietnam. He would remain in the Army Reserves for 20 years, eventually retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

After Vietnam, he attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina Law School. His 1st law job was working for local Columbia legend, Tuck Rion. A few years later Cam and Roddy Jordan started their own practice where, they worked together for nearly 30 years. They were good partners and remained great friends.

Cam enjoyed learning and reading history. He earned a Masters in History from USC in 1978.

Cam and Mary Bundrick were married in 1994, and they were together and very much in love until her death in 2024.

He seemed to know everyone in Columbia and had many great friendships. He loved being a lawyer, helping people and working in his yard. In his younger years he was an active runner and shag dancer. Despite being born in the north, he was a true southern gentleman.

Cam is proceeded in death by his parents, wife Mary and brother Scott. His surviving family includes sisters Sally Noorullah (Nuru) and Susan Balmanno, sons Roscoe and Wells (Kathleen), and grandson Sam along with many nieces and nephews. A service will be announced at a later date.

I have many pleasant memories of seeing Cam walking back to his original office on Laurel Street from the courthouse with a starched long sleeve shirt (no matter how hot it was) and tie with his blue blazer in one hand and his file in the other, and bumping into him at the post office on Lady Street almost every day. He was always polite and in a good mood.

I am sorry to hear of Cam´s passing. I found him to be a congenial adversary in practice and a good neighbor.

I met Cam early on in my practice of law. He was Citadel Class of '68 and I the class of '97. That was the initial connection. I had a few cases with Cam over the years and I learned two lessons from him. To keep it simple, and know how to tell a good story. I am glad to have known Cam. He will be missed at the Courthouse.

I am sorry to learn of Cam's passing. He befriended me back in 1979 when I was on active duty at Ft. Jackson. We served together many years in the 12th JAG, and I always appreciated his warmth, humor and humanity. We were co-counsel in several matters in the 1990s, and I learned much from him. May his soul find peace and may his family be comforted that his mission in this World is accomplished.

I had several cases opposing him. He was a joy to work with and clearly loved being in court.

I have known Cam since he was practicing law with Tuck Rion. I have always liked and thought well of Cam. We used to run into each other at Hampton Street and discuss the world's problems.
Thank you Cam for being my friend.
May a gracious God watch over you and your family.
Thank you for your service to our country.
Rest well
