Sylvia Waugh

Sylvia H. Waugh WEST COLUMBIA - Sylvia H. Waugh, 82, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018. She was born in Columbia, SC, on February 7, 1936 the daughter of Vernon F. and Cornelia R. Hill. She graduated from Dreher High School and attended Erskine College before graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Business. She worked at USC for years before marring David Waugh in 1983. Sylvia was a woman of many interests and many talents. She loved to cook (and was an avid collector of cookbooks), sew, decorate, read, do crafts, play her piano and sing. Travel became a favorite thing. She visited 40 states, 13 countries, and over 20 islands in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Mediterranean. Many were on cruises and others as she joined David on engineering activities. She found great comfort in her Bible and her devotional books. She was elected National President of the Auxiliaries of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and made many friends around the country. Mrs. Waugh is survived by David Waugh, her loving (and very fortunate) husband of over 35 years; daughters, Debbie Davis (Malcolm) of Lexington, SC, Vicki Manuel (Tim) of Missoula, MT; brother, V. Fritz Hill (Dot) of Chapin, SC; step-daughters, Debra Tomaski (Mark) of Atlantic Beach, FL, Donna Waugh of Little Rock, AR; step-son, David Waugh, Jr. (Melanie) of Indian Land, SC; five grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher and Phillip Manuel, Meaghan Davis, John David Waugh, III and several nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with interment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. www.caughmanharmanfuneralhome.net.
