Tommy Hamm Obituary
May 3, 1938 - January 21, 2022
Greenville, South Carolina - Tommy Todd Hamm, PhD. died peacefully at home on January 21, 2022, of Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born May 3, 1938, the son of Harry Kindred Hamm and Wilma "Bernice" Syck (granddaughter of the patriarch, Randolph McCoy) in Pikeville, KY.
He was a professor of history at Ohio University-Chillicothe, a professor of history at Allen University, an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina, and a teacher of history at E.L. Wright and Dent Middle Schools. He also served 20 years in the Air National Guard.
Tommy's great enjoyments were reading and tennis (Rockbridge Tennis Club). Though he never shot his age in golf, he was proud of his hole-in-one.
We rejoice that his soul is with the Lord!
Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Susan Jayne Holden; sons, David Todd (m. Karena Christine Nelson), Craig Frederick, and Ted Harry (m. Lucy Elizabeth Smoak); grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne, Russell David, Holden Kindred, Rebecca Susan, Craig David, Bailey Cockrell, Benjamin Thaddeus, Lucy Jayne, Anna Kathleen and Molly Eva.
Tommy was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Ted Hamm.
A service will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Eureka Baptist Church.

I taught with Dr. Hamm many years ago at Dent Middle School. Although I didn't know him well, he was a fine educator. My sincere condolences to his all of his family.
