Wayne Whiteside Obituary

Wayne Patton Whiteside

March 8, 1960 - December 14, 2024

Lexington, South Carolina - Wayne Patton Whiteside, 64, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on December 14, 2024, from a sudden heart attack.

Wayne was born on March 8, 1960, in Lexington, South Carolina, the son of the late Nevin William Whiteside, Jr. and Barbara Sox Whiteside. He was a devoted father to Elizabeth Lauren Whiteside Mann (Jordan) and John Andrew Patton Whiteside. Wayne was a proud grandfather, known affectionately as PawPaw, to his two beloved grandchildren, Poppy and Patton (Lauren and Jordan's children), who brought him immense joy.

Wayne was the dedicated owner of Lexington Paint and Flooring, a local business he owned and operated since 1985. Known for his exceptional work ethic, dedication, and commitment to his community, Wayne built lasting relationships with his customers and employees. His store became a cornerstone of Lexington, providing expert advice and quality products to both homeowners and contractors alike.

Wayne loved spending time outdoors, especially at the beach, and enjoyed watching Gamecock football and baseball. He had a natural musical talent, playing both the drums and piano. Wayne also had a deep love for animals of all kinds. Known for his kind spirit and quick wit, Wayne could always be counted on to offer a helping hand with a smile and a joke. He was also known for his exceptional craftsmanship and his long-standing talk radio show, "The Home Doc," where he shared his expertise on home improvement and repairs with listeners. Wayne's roots in Lexington ran deep, being a proud Lexington High School graduate and a familiar face in the community.

Wayne is survived by his mother, Barbara Sox Whiteside; his two children, Elizabeth Lauren Whiteside Mann (Jordan) and John Andrew Patton Whiteside; his grandchildren, Poppy and Patton (Lauren and Jordan's children); his brother, Stan Whiteside (Lynda); his sister, Kim French (Tim); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Nevin William Whiteside, Jr. Along with his family, he is also survived by his special friend, Mary Pfeiffer.

A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Wayne's memory to their charity of choice. However, if you wish to send flowers, they will be graciously accepted. Wayne will be forever remembered for his generosity, loyalty, and the lasting impact he had on the lives of his family and friends.

Steve and I had many delightful dealings with Wayne during our years of owning Columbia Exterminating. He was always most courteous and helpful.
Sad to know he's no longer with us.
