Christopher Doherty Obituary

Doherty, Christopher J., 56, of West Yarmouth, formerly of Attleboro, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 20, 2019. He was surrounded by family on his final days and leaves many friends who will miss him dearly.

Mr. Doherty was co-owner of the 19th Hole Tavern, a legendary Irish Pub in the heart of Hyannis. Mr. Doherty brought people together with a warm smile on his face and a firm handshake that was as strong as any binding contract. His cheerful demeanor and genuine willingness to help others was defined through his sympathetic nature and stood as the hallmark of his remarkable life. He could be seen quite often greeting patrons at the door of the pub while standing outside on the sidewalk laughing with a cigar in his mouth on warm summer nights.

Mr. Doherty attended Providence College and was a proud 1981 graduate of Bishop-Feehan High School in Attleboro where he played basketball on a team that went undefeated in league play in his senior year. He expressed fond memories of his time at Feehan and credited the kindness and caring of the nuns for instilling in him the honorable values that guided him throughout his life.

He was a generous sponsor of the Cape Cod Baseball League as well as many other significant endeavors including events to benefit public safety charities near and far. He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Hyannis.

Christopher Joseph Doherty was the youngest son of Carol M. Doherty, RN who recently celebrated her 92nd birthday and the late Dr. Edward J. Doherty.

He also leaves his brother, retired Clerk-Magistrate Edward J. Doherty and wife Joanne of Mattapoisett; his brother, retired Colonel Brendan P. Doherty and wife Michele of Wakefield, RI; nephew Matthew J. Doherty and wife Kristin of Wayland; nieces Christine E. Ehlers and husband Dan of Lakeville, Shelby E. Matzell and husband Evan of Rumford, RI and Kaitlin M. Wirth and husband Jonathan of Marion; as well as several great nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind his very close companion, girlfriend Natalie Sands of Weymouth.

His funeral will begin at 8:30 am on Monday, December 23, 2019 from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Francis Xavier Church, 347 South Street, Hyannis, MA. Burial will follow in Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery, Pine St, Centerville, MA 02632.
