David Rickard Obituary

DAVID WELD RICKARD

North Attleboro: David the son of Robert Hazard Rickard and Ruth Grant Wheeler Rickard born on February 7th 1937 in Milford, MA. He went home to be with the LORD on April 22, 2020. He lived in North Attleboro from 1942 to 2020.

He was a member of Boy Scouts of America, an Eagle Scout, received God and Country Award, and was a Scout leader. He attended North Attleboro High School and was a member of the baseball team, and graduated in 1954.

Dave worked at Metals and Controls in Attleboro where he met the love of his life Andrea Gail Collins from Attleboro and was married on December 23, 1956.

He attended North Eastern University and graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration, graduating in 1959. He was also an R.O.T.C. candidate for 5 years.

Upon graduation he joined the United States Army with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant where his active duty was in Georgia and later in New Jersey where he was joined by his wife and 3 of his children. His 4th child arrived in 1962.

Upon completion of his duty in the Army, He and his family returned to North Attleboro in 1960 where he began his career at the Foxboro Co. in Foxboro, MA. His career spanned 37 years in various positions and retired in 1997 as Corporate Vice President of Human Resources. His many accomplishments help build The Foxboro Co. into one of the largest employers in New England.

Dave was very active in his community. He joined the Jaycees and worked with a group of civic-minded men to work for the betterment of their community. He was elected President of the Jaycees. He was also the chairman for organizing the Bicentennial Parade in 1976, along with many other charitable events. He also served as a Selectman in North Attleboro and was Chairman of the Board of Selectman in the final year of his 3-year term. He Served on the School Committee. He was also the Chairman of the Recreation Dept. and President of the Jr. Football league.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in N.A. and became Superintendent of the Sunday School. He later joined Grace Bible Church in Somerset, MA and served as Treasurer and was a member of the Board of Directors. He then joined Grace Fellowship Church in Plainville, where his son James is the Pastor, and served in many capacities.

He embodied love, integrity, charity, hard work, honesty, and faith in God. He and his wife often offered a home or meal to anyone who needed one. He was truly a great man.

He enjoyed softball, camping, cookouts, golfing, skiing, water sports, and all Boston/New England sports. His favorite times were spent with family and friends at his 3-season home in Onset, MA and other vacations on lakes in NH, Maine.

David is survived by his wife Andrea of 64 years, 4 children, Lynda Morrison and husband Kevin of Norfolk, MA, Stephen Rickard and wife Terrie of North Attleboro, Susan Cronin and husband Barry of North Attleboro, James Rickard and wife Beth of Rehoboth MA, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Brothers: Jonathan, Peter, and Sister Jennifer.

Memorial service held at Grace Fellowship Church, 23 Messenger St., Plainville, MA on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10:00 am.
