David T. Sturtevant, Sr., 82, of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Melody J. (Gregory) Sturtevant, who passed away on April 5, 2019.
Born in Acushnet, MA, on September 20, 1942, he was the loving son of the late Wayland L. and Gladys M. (Broadland) Sturtevant. Dave grew up in New Bedford and was a proud graduate of New Bedford High School. He continued his education at Bristol Community College, Northeastern University, and Roger Williams University, earning his bachelor's degree.
Dave enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a software engineer, working with the Foxboro Company, System Soft, and Insyde Software. Later in life, he took on part-time roles as a delivery driver for The Sun Chronicle and Manheim Auto Auction, finding joy in staying active and connected with others.
A lifelong learner and hobbyist, Dave was a member of the HAM radio club that gathered at Sturdy Memorial Hospital and the Foxboro Company. His passion for self-improvement began in his youth when he transformed his health through exercise, a commitment that fueled his love for swimming, cycling, and jogging. His dedication to health saw him regularly complete a three-mile jogging route.
Dave was a devoted sports fan, cheering enthusiastically for the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the Pawtucket Red Sox. His generosity was evident in the way he introduced many friends and family members to the joy of live baseball by treating them to Paw Sox games. A man of diverse interests, he enjoyed watching "Judge Judy" and spending time by the ocean. A true craftsman, he even built a sailboat from styrofoam and fiberglass.
Music played a central role in Dave's life. He loved attending concerts and listening to artists like the Moody Blues, Cat Stevens, Air Supply, CCR, and Fleetwood Mac. Known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, he could always bring a smile to those around him. His favorite saying, "Family comes first," guided his life. Dave and Melody's home was a haven for many, a place of warmth, laughter, and love.
Dave's remarkable work ethic and generosity defined him. Even in lean times, he never hesitated to share what he had with those in need. He cherished time spent with family during Thanksgiving and summer cookouts, surrounded by loved ones and lifelong friends.
Dave is survived by his children: David T. Sturtevant, Jr. and his wife Annette of Attleboro; June M. Kohler and her husband Franklin Kohler, Jr. of Attleboro; and Bruce E. Sturtevant of Stoughton. He was the father of the late Wayne Sturtevant, Sr.
He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Franklin III and his fiancée Hailey, Geddy and his wife Hannah, Kayla and her wife Melissa, Melanie and her fiance Gaige, Stephanie and her fiancé Evan, Samantha, Wayne Jr., Corey, and Kristin; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
