Dawn Van Vliet Obituary

Dawn (Thrasher) Van Vliet, 92, of Mansfield, MA passed away peacefully at Hope Health-Hulitar Hospice Center Providence, RI on September 10, 2025. She was the wife of the late Dr. Jack Van Vliet.

Dawn was born on August 31, 1933 in New Bedford, MA. She was a homemaker most of her life, living in Mansfield for over 50 years. She enjoyed baking and was known throughout the community for passing out her Christmas cookies to local businesses. She was also a gifted amateur poet, often asked to write and deliver poems for family and friends on special occasions. She could never pass up a good yard sale.

She was a kind and generous person who sensed when others were in need and made them feel valued and loved. Many people visited here during her two weeks at hospice to remind her of the love they felt for her and the positive impact she had on their lives. She was a member of The Fellowship in South Easton, MA.

Dawn is survived by her three children. Chris of Ocala, FL. Alison Van Moeckel of Mansfield, MA, and Jonathan and his wife Andrea of Attleboro, MA., and a sister Doreen Spano. She was also the proud grandmother to Corbin, Catherine, Victoria, Nicholas and Troy.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, September 14th from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, September 15th at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield

I first knew Dawn from First Christian Church in West Mansfield. We each moved on to different churches. Over the years we have run into each other in TJ Maxx (on more than one occasion!) throughout the years and most recently in the grocery store. She always was so gracious and kind, always with a smile. We would catch up on our lives and our families. We always talked about the Lord and shared how He was working in our lives. She was on my mind as I went in to Shaw's Saturday thinking I had not seen her since early summer. I didn't know that she had passed. It saddens me to know that there will be no more of those conversations. She was a lovely person and I am thankful that I had the privilege of knowing her.
I'm so sorry I can't be there today. Knowing that she is at home with the Lord brings me comfort and joy. God bless all of you.
